The P50L Nd:YAG laser is designed specifically for precision drilling, both percussion and trepanning, of turbine engine blades and vanes, combustion liners, fiberglass spinnerets, and automotive lubrication holes. The P50L delivers the highest peak power (50 kW) of any industrial pulsed Nd:YAG laser for drilling deep, high aspect ratio holes at shallow entrance angles.  It also provides high pulse rates for high speed drilling applications such as drill-on-the-fly and high speed trepanning.  

Developments in laser optics and solid state electronic power supplies, along with sophisticated computer modeling and analysis tools, have resulted in a laser design that provides superior performance, greater reliability, and lower cost.  Key features of the P50L include:

  • Intra-cavity telescope (ICT) ensures constant beam quality over the entire operating range.  Several ICTs are available to address the wide range of applications possible with the P50L.

Within the laser head, the P50L uses a v-rail optical bench for superior stability and flexibility. The laser uses two flash lamps that are quickly and easily replaced as needed. Little or no alignment is required after components are changed, further minimizing setup and changeover time.  The modular design of the optic and electronic assemblies allows for fast and easy replacement of components for unmatched processing flexibility and configuration adjustment.

The power supply is based on advanced solid-state IGBT electronics for rapid switching of high currents, ideal for the flexibility required in today's manufacturing environment.   This design also provides for high efficiency and full programmability of laser parameters, including pulse shaping. The power supply includes an integrated water conditioning system and heat exchanger all housed in a compact NEMA 12 enclosure.
