The CL50k Nd:YAG laser is a PRIMA North America Inc. design collaboration between CONVERGENT LASERS and LASERDYNE SYSTEMS.   Based on the design of the CONVERGENT LASERS P50L this laser completes the potential first envisioned for the P50L.  Designed specifically for precision hole drilling, both percussion, Drill on the Fly, and trepanning, The CL50K delivers the highest peak power (50 kW) of any industrial pulsed Nd:YAG laser for drilling deep and high aspect ratio holes at shallow entrance angles.  It also has the unique ability when married to the LASERDYNE product line to control hole size while keeping the laser focus at the surface of the part.  Coupled with high pulse rates for high speed drilling applications such as drill-on-the-fly and high speed trepanning this laser is the foremost Nd:YAG laser available for precision and productivity in hole drilling.  

Developments in laser optics and solid state electronic power supplies, along with sophisticated computer modeling and analysis tools, have resulted in a laser design that provides superior performance, greater reliability, and lower cost.  The laser is designed to be used with LASERDYNE SYSTEMS 94P control.  Exclusive features of the S94P will change laser hole drilling for the future.

Within the laser head, the CL50K uses a v-rail optical bench setup for superior stability and flexibility. The laser uses two flash lamps that are quickly and easily replaced as needed. Little or no alignment is required after components are changed, further minimizing setup and changeover time.  The modular design of the optic and electronic assemblies allows for fast and easy replacement of components for unmatched processing flexibility and configuration adjustment.

The power supply is based on advanced solid-state IGBT electronics for rapid switching of high currents, ideal for the flexibility required in today's manufacturing environment.   This design also provides for high efficiency and full programmability of laser parameters, including pulse shaping. The new power supply layout includes an integrated water conditioning system and heat exchanger all housed in a compact NEMA 12 enclosure.
